Latest Scam Ads

Beware of ads placed by user browndonia.  Invalid phone numbers are one clue, although from time to time there are genuine sellers who have email as their only contact method, but requiring money to be transferred overseas is the clue to recognise scam ads.  I have edited the ads with some tips on how to recognise a scam.  Click here to see the ads of browndonia since I have edited them.

Ads Now Auto-Expire after 120 Days

Despite previous requests to keep ads on Chooknet it has become obvious that they really need to be tidied up!  So I have removed all ads older than 1st October 2011 and set the auto-expire function to 120 days.  This means that 7 days prior to your ad expiring you will receive an email to advise you and the email will contain a link so you can renew your ad if you wish.  If you do nothing the ad will be deleted once it is 120 days old.

I would like to know what members think about the timer period, is 120 days too long?  Please leave your comments here on the forum. (you must be logged in to post a reply on the forum)

WARNING - Not Scam Ads Again

There have been SCAM ads placed for fertile parrot eggs today also different breeds of young chicks!  As administrator I receive an email notification for EVERY AD placed on Chooknet so I can usually detect scam ads immediately before they have a chance to become known to the public and remove them.

I am doing my best to remove the ads and the user as soon as possible but there will be times where I can't always check my email and remove the ads immediately.  So it is up to you to recognise these SCAM ads and do not respond.  I have reported the IP address and details of the Ads to Scamwatch and the seller will be pursued by the relevant authorities and will be caught.

Our Chookwise Handy Hints section contains many pearls of wisdom relating to the keeping and care of chickens.  Each hint has been contributed by experienced chicken owners.  This handy fact sheet is very useful for first-time chicken keepers.  Please feel free to use the fact sheet as you like for business and private use, the only request I have is that the Chooknet logo and text remains on the page along with the link to the Chooknet website.

Hoax Ads

Learn to recognize hoax ads.  Is the price too good to be true?  If so then its most likely a hoax.  Is the item advertised not related to poultry eg. mobile phones?  Then its most likely a hoax ad.  If you are not sure of the seller's credentials, then use Paypal to pay for goods.  Paypal have extensive checking procedures in place to verify sellers and although not completely foolproof, provide some added means of protection.

Check Your Seller's Reputation

If you are buying something for the first time it's a good idea to do some research and find out some information about the seller.  Although the majority of sellers on Chooknet are genuine and reliable, unfortunately these days you still need to be cautious and do some homework beforehand.

The forums are a great way to research your seller before you part with your hard-earned cash.  I recommend that you post a message on the Chooknet Forum, and on the Backyard Poultry forum to find out if the seller has a good reputation.  You will soon find out either way.  You will soon receive many replies either to congratulate the seller on their customer service, or to report a bad incident!
